Welcome! My goal for this blog is to provide resources and ideas to help busy families and individuals live as healthy as possible and to have fun along the way.
This is my family, my husband Jake is my official photographer and taste tester for the blog. Our boys Logan and Declan are the food critics.
We all work full time. I am a pharmacist, Jake is an engineer and Logan and Dec are professional mess-makers.
To us healthy means eating as little wheat, corn, soy, dairy, sugar and processed food additives as possible. Logan and I both suffer from eczema that improves significantly when we eat gluten free. This way of eating has also improved a mood disorder I didn’t realize I had until I cleaned up my diet, and also improved my chronic acne.
We try to follow the “paleo” diet as closely as possible but do make exceptions for some organic dairy, occasional gluten free oats, white potatoes and a few other things, mostly for convenience.
I believe that this way of eating is beneficial for everyone for general health, treatment of almost every ailment and the prevention of autoimmune disorders but this is based purely on speculation and unfortunately this theory will never be tested. Obviously no information in this blog is meant to be a substitution for traditional medical care and you should be open with your physician/pediatrician about your diet even though they may roll their eyes if you mention the words “gluten free.”
There is a LOT of information out there on nutrition and I am not going to pretend to be an expert, you have to decide what is right for you and your family. We are not perfect and we do “cheat” but we are getting better and better at preparing meals ahead and always having healthy snacks on hand to minimize this. Hopefully some of the things I have learned on this journey will help you!
